abs pipe fittings square

ABS pipes, constructed from acrylonitrile butadiene styrene plastics, have become the go-to choice for home and commercial building drainage, waste, and venting solutions. Unlike traditional PVC pipes, ABS pipes are much easier to install and offer increased durability.

ABS pipes interlock with specially designed fittings. An array of options are available, the most popular being elbow joints, tee joints, and wye joints. To secure the fit, an adhesive is spread on the inside of the pipes before they’re pushed together and left to set. Every component must remain still until the adhesive resolidifies for maximum strength.

To switch up direction, elbow joints are your go-to. And if you need to interlock two tubes, a tee joint will do the trick for a “T” shape. As for a “Y” configuration? Look no further than wye joints!

ABS fittings come in three additional varieties: crosses, couplings, and reducers. Crosses bring four pipes together in a crisscross formation, couplings link two pipes end-to-end, and reducers join two different-sized tubes.

ABS fittings range in size from 1/2 inch to 4 inches, with the most typical sizes being 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2, and 2. Even larger fittings of 3 and 4 inches are available.

As you navigate through the process of installing ABS pipe, it is of the utmost importance to select the right size fitting. Too small of a fitting will not fit as designed and has the potential to come loose. If you make the mistake of using a fitting that is too large, it will be extremely difficult to push the ABS pipe all the way into the fitting, which could result in it breaking.

ABS pipe is securely joined together with solvent cement. This liquid adhesive is applied inside of the fitting, pushing the pipe into place. When complete, its drying process will form a sturdy bond between them. Together, the pipe and fitting will last for the long haul without worry of any potential detachment or misalignment.

ABS pipe can easily be shaped according to your needs; using either a saw or a pipe cutter will get the job done. A saw will offer a smoother edge, yet a pipe cutter is quicker and far simpler to use.

To snip ABS pipe with a saw, first identify the point where you want the cut and scribe it. Subsequently, sawing the pipe is just a matter of utilizing either a hacksaw or a reciprocating saw. All that said, precaution should be taken while piping to stay safe from the harsh contours of the ABS pipe.

To craft a neat cut in ABS pipes, begin by firmly squeezing a pipe cutter around the circumference of the pipe. Subsequently, roll the cutter in a circle around the pipe for an even cut.

After slicing the pipe, you can join the pieces using ABS fittings. For a secure fit, slather solvent cement on the inside of the fitting and embed the pipe. Compress them together and wait for the adhesive to dry.

When it comes to drainage, waste, and vent applications in residential and commercial buildings, ABS pipe is an outstanding option. As opposed to PVC pipe, ABS is relatively simple to install and boasts impressive durability – plus, it can be sliced with a saw or a cutter then fastened together with fittings crafted from the same material.
